Evening @ Skidaway — The Earth’s Medicine Cabinet
May 14, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeScientists have long searched tropical forests and other ecosystems find substances to create new drugs, but until recently, the world’s oceans have been largely overlooked. That is now changing as chemicals derived from the ocean are becoming the basis of drugs ranging from antibiotics to HIV treatments.
University of Georgia Skidaway Institute of Oceanography researcher Elizabeth Harvey will discuss these trends in an Evening @ Skidaway program titled “The Ocean – The Earth’s Medicine Cabinet” on Tuesday, May 14, in the McGowan Library on the UGA Skidaway Marine Science Campus (10 Ocean Science Circle, Savannah, GA 31411). The event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program at 7 p.m.
The program is open to the public, and admission is free. Space is limited. To reserve a seat, please call (912) 598-2325 or email mike.sullivan@skio.uga.edu.UGA
