Open Lab Night — July 10
July 10, 2018 @ 6:15 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThe University of Georgia Skidaway Institute of Oceanography will present an “Open Lab Night” as part of its yearlong Evening @ Skidaway series of public programs to celebrate the Institute’s 50th anniversary. On Tuesday, July 10, visitors will have the opportunity to visit informally with scientists in their laboratories. The program will begin with a reception at 6:15 p.m., followed by lab visits until 8 p.m. at 10 Ocean Science Circle, Savannah, GA 31411.
Geologist Clark Alexander will talk with visitors about how his work examining coastal geology using sonar, sediments and geographic information systems is revealing new information about how Georgia’s islands, sounds and seafloor change over time. Chemist Clifton Buck will share his research, including how minute concentrations of chemicals in the ocean affect the world’s food web. Physical oceanographer Catherine Edwards will introduce visitors to one of her tools for exploring the ocean — an underwater robot — and new methods her lab has developed to optimize ocean sampling.
The program is open to the public, and admission is free. For additional information, call (912) 598-2325 or email mike.sullivan@skio.uga.edu.
