Here are some of the more impressive images from the In Situ Ichthyoplankton Imaging System and modular Deep-focus Plankton Imager (both are shadowgraph systems). These are massive datasets, and many of these images are some of the first depictions of these beautiful animals in there natural environment. We are discovering new things within them all the time!

Siphonophore and associated fish

Larval or juvenile fish hanging out near a siphonophore. Subsequent images indicate that this fish is not being consumed even though it may look like that in the image. They can play tricks on your eyes!
