UGA Skidaway Institute’s weather station became operational in May 2020. The weather station includes a 30-foot tall tower on the pier at Priests Landing. It has a Gill Instruments GMX531 Weather Station, collecting wind direction and speed, air temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, solar radiation, and precipitation at five-minute intervals. The station is powered by a solar panel, and data are sent by a cellular link to a website for display. This installation is part of a National Weather Service funded effort to improve regional weather forecasts. An altimeter was added to the installation in April 2024.
